How this works

Hash rates are scaled from RTX 5090 hashcat benchmarks to your chosen parameters (work grows with iterations, memory, and cost factor). The cost estimate assumes an attacker rents GPUs at $0.20 per GPU-hour, deliberately pessimistic for the defender. "Protected For" estimates how long until cracking becomes cheaper than your secret's value to an attacker, assuming cracking costs halve every 3 years as hardware improves. We use haveibeenpwned.com to securely check for password breaches and zxcvbn to estimate entropy.
